Terms of Service
Effective date: July 30, 2026 • Version: 2026-07-30
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of OneTime (the "Service"), an anonymous, peer-to-peer video and text chat that randomly connects you with another person. By clicking "I Agree & Enter" on the entry screen, or by otherwise accessing or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Minimum Age — You Must Be 18 or Older
OneTime is strictly for users who are 18 years of age or older. There is no exception to this rule, including for users who are 18 in some jurisdictions but not others — if you are under 18, you may not access or use the Service under any circumstances.
By entering the Service you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years old. Because OneTime does not collect identity documents, we rely on this affirmation, on user reports, and on the enforcement measures described below to keep minors off the Service. Any account, session, or connection reasonably believed to belong to a person under 18 — whether based on a user report, self-disclosure during a chat, or any other indication — will be banned immediately and permanently under Section 4, and may be reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and/or law enforcement as described in Section 8.
2. What OneTime Is
OneTime pairs you with a random other user for a live, peer-to-peer (WebRTC) video or text chat. Our server's job is limited to matchmaking (pairing two waiting users) and signaling (helping two browsers establish a direct connection) — once connected, your video, audio, and chat messages travel directly between the two participants' devices. We do not run the chat content itself through our servers, record it, or store it. Sessions are ephemeral: closing or reloading the page ends the session and there is nothing saved to resume.
This also means OneTime cannot see or moderate what happens inside a live chat in real time. Moderation instead relies on the reporting and enforcement system described in Sections 3–5 — which is exactly why using the Report button when something goes wrong matters.
3. Prohibited Conduct
By using OneTime, you agree that you will not, and will not attempt to:
- Access or use the Service if you are under 18 years old, or facilitate access for anyone under 18;
- Display, describe, request, or share sexual content involving minors in any form — this is never tolerated and is reported to authorities;
- Engage in sexual, explicit, or nude conduct with another user who has not clearly and affirmatively consented to it, or in a public/default chat context;
- Harass, bully, threaten, stalk, or intimidate another user, or encourage self-harm or violence;
- Threaten violence, terrorism, or harm against any person, group, or property;
- Record, screenshot, stream, or redistribute another user's video, audio, or likeness without their consent;
- Impersonate another person, or misrepresent your identity, age, or affiliation;
- Use the Service for spam, advertising, solicitation, scams, or to distribute malware or phishing links;
- Use the Service to plan, promote, or carry out any illegal activity;
- Attempt to circumvent a ban (including by changing networks, devices, or otherwise evading enforcement) after being banned.
4. Enforcement & Bans
Violating these Terms — including the conduct listed in Section 3 — can result in enforcement action against your access to the Service, up to and including a permanent ban. Because OneTime does not use accounts, enforcement is applied at the network level (for example, blocking the IP address associated with the offending session from matchmaking and connection signaling). As a consequence:
- Underage use, sexual content involving minors, threats of violence, and similarly severe violations typically result in an immediate, permanent ban and may be escalated to law enforcement — see Section 8.
- Harassment, non-consensual explicit conduct, and other serious violations may result in a ban ranging from temporary to permanent, depending on severity and history.
- Spam and lower-severity violations may result in a temporary ban.
We reserve the right to take enforcement action based on a credible user report even without independent confirmation, given that we cannot directly observe live chat content. We also reserve the right to change, reduce, or lift a ban at our discretion.
5. Reporting
A "Report" button is available in the app both during an active chat and immediately after one ends, so you can report something even after the other person has disconnected. When you submit a report, you'll be asked to:
- Choose a category — Underage User, Harassment, Explicit Content, Threats, Spam, or Other;
- Optionally add context describing what happened;
- Optionally attach a screenshot (either a captured video frame or an uploaded image) as evidence.
Please do not upload sexually explicit imagery of minors as "evidence" under any circumstances — describe the incident in the context field instead and it will still be treated with the highest priority.
How reports are handled
- Acknowledgment — you receive an immediate on-screen confirmation that your report was received.
- Triage — every report is logged to a review queue and automatically assigned a priority based on category. Reports categorized as Underage User or Threats are flagged critical and moved to the front of the queue; Harassment and Explicit Content are flagged high priority; Spam and Other are treated as standard priority.
- Response timelines — critical and high-priority reports are reviewed as urgently as possible and, whenever practical, within 24 hours; standard-priority reports are reviewed within 2 business days.
- Escalation — critical reports (underage use, credible threats, CSAM) are escalated for immediate action, which may include an immediate ban pending review and referral to NCMEC and/or law enforcement per Section 8.
- Outcome — a report is closed as actioned (enforcement taken, e.g. a ban) or dismissed (no violation found). We do not currently notify reporters individually of the outcome, in order to keep the Service anonymous and account-free.
6. Data, Logs & Retention
OneTime does not record or store the content of your video, audio, or chat messages — those travel directly between participants and are never routed through or saved on our servers. The following limited data is retained strictly for safety and moderation purposes:
- Report records (category, any context or screenshot you provide, timestamps, and the IP addresses involved in that session) are retained for 90 days from submission, after which they are automatically deleted — unless a report is tied to an active ban, in which case the minimal information needed to enforce that ban is retained for as long as the ban remains in effect.
- Matchmaking pairing data (which session was paired with which, used only to route reports to the right session) is short-lived and not retained beyond what's needed to operate matchmaking.
- Ban records (banned IP, reason, category, date) are retained for as long as the ban is in effect, plus a limited period afterward for abuse-prevention purposes.
7. Privacy
OneTime is designed to be used without creating an account or providing identifying information. We do not ask for your name, email, or other identity details to use the core chat features. The technical exceptions are: (a) your IP address, which any web server necessarily sees to serve you the page and route your connection, and which is used as described in Sections 4 and 6; and (b) anything you voluntarily submit through the Report form. We do not sell your data.
8. Law Enforcement & Legal Compliance
We cooperate with law enforcement where legally required. Reports or other information indicating apparent child sexual abuse material or the sexual exploitation of a minor will be escalated and reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and/or relevant law enforcement authorities as required by applicable law. We may also disclose information in response to a valid legal request (such as a subpoena or court order) or where we believe disclosure is necessary to prevent imminent harm.
9. No Warranty; Limitation of Liability
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. Because OneTime connects you with strangers over an unmoderated, real-time, peer-to-peer connection, we cannot guarantee the identity, age, intentions, or conduct of anyone you are matched with — your use of the Service is at your own risk. To the maximum extent permitted by law, OneTime and its operators are not liable for any conduct of other users or for any damages arising from your use of the Service.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make a material change, the version date at the top of this page will change, and you will be asked to re-agree the next time you enter the Service.
